Nordic Walks

Nordic Stretch Walking

Swanage & Purbeck Walking Festival 2015

Nordic walking is currently the fastest growing fitness activity in the world as it is a safe and effective way to get fitter, meet new friends, enjoy some healthy fresh air in the great outdoors, as well as being affordable and FUN!

With its origins in Finland, Nordic walking was developed from cross country skiing.  Now it is loved all over the world as an enhancement to ordinary walking by making something we learn to do as babies twice as effective!  Widely used by health and fitness professionals, Nordic walking is a specific fitness technique and rehabilitative tool (not to be confused with trekking, hill walking or trail running) where the use of the poles provide a whole host of benefits:

•    The upper body muscles are used as well as the legs, meaning you burn 46% more calories than ordinary walking
•    The poles help to propel you along meaning you work harder than usual, yet the support given by the poles makes it feel easier
•    Easier on the knees and great for back, shoulder and neck problems
•    Suitable for everyone – anybody can Nordic walk anywhere!

Walking Technique

Lynne Martin from Nordic Walking Fit is a fully qualified Nordic Walking instructor in the Swanage & Purbeck area and has been introducing, teaching  and leading walks in the area for the past 2 years. With so many beautiful walks through the Downs and the Jurassic coast, it seems only beneficial to Nordic Walk to make these fantastic walks easier, more effective and also get so much more benefits as it turns a walk into a workout without any more effort.

With the opportunity to walk the Jurassic Coast with the specific technique of Nordic Walking during the Swanage & Purbeck Waking Festival you can come along to a Taster Sessions, and follow on to a 4 Session Learn To course and then join an Adventure Walk or a sunrise Beach Walk. Nordic Walking Fit is delighted to be offering a variety of Nordic walks at this year’s Swanage & Purbeck Walking Festival, including taster sessions where anyone who is new to Nordic walking can come along and give it a go. Learn To Nordic Walk courses in which we teach the full Nordic walking technique over 4 sessions during the week of the festival whilst enjoying some of the most spectacular scenery the UK has to offer, and of course, for those people who have been Nordic walking for a while, we have some fantastic adventure walks and an opportunity to explore the area as well!  Poles will be provided free of charge for all taster and technique sessions, although you are welcome to use your own if you already have Nordic walking poles.
