The following information is intended to make your participation in the Swanage Walking Festival a safe and enjoyable experience; please read this carefully before joining a walk.
Most walks have restriction on maximum numbers so it is important that you book your walk in advance. Walk leaders may cancel walks should there be no advance bookings. In exceptional circumstances walkers may be accepted on a walk without having pre-booked but this will be at the discretion of the walk leader.
It will be your responsibility to ensure that you are properly equipped for the grade and length of walk. A waterproof jacket and trousers, walking boots, warm clothes, spare warm layer, gloves, hat, and a rucksack are essential. If you have any doubts about suitability of clothing please consult your walk leader before booking the walk.
Food and Drink
You are advised to bring your own food and drink on every walk unless a lunch stop is incorporated into the walk. Ensure that you have an adequate supply of water (and a hot drink if you wish) and sufficient food for the length of walk – there are no cafes on the hills! Short walks generally finish before lunch, so you may only need to bring a snack and water. Meal breaks will be taken at a suitable point in the walk at the discretion of the Walk Leader. Please note that packed lunches may be purchased from your accommodation provider or from one of our partners.
For your own safety and that of other people in your walking group, you must follow the instructions of the Walk Leader at all times. Walk Leaders may refuse to take people who are not properly equipped or prepared. Walk Leaders will decide whether a walk can proceed or be curtailed in the event of adverse weather. Please note that many of the walks have stiles.
Any walk that has a charge should be prepaid using our online booking and payment system or through the Swanage Tourist Information Centre. Please see our ‘How To Book’ page for more information.
Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Dogs are welcome on walks where specified. Please ensure that you have a lead for them and that you follow the requirements of the Countryside Rights of Way Act.
Walk Start and Finish Times
Times given are for the start of the walk. It is not possible to wait for late arrivals. Finish times are approximate.
No liability will be accepted for loss or injury that occurs as a result of taking part in any Walk or Event.
